So, I’ve got one vote for “Other.” Can someone make suggestions as to what that would be?
It is really starting to look like flash, which is good, as I did not want to compete with Madison. if drabbles are chosen, the prompts will been word based, or theme, rather than photo and not on the same days as Madison’s. I adore doing hers too much to interfere there.
Thank you for explaining, Lora! I’ll get better at making these polls so the “other” write-ins show up!

I sent in 2 votes…one for Flash Fiction and “Other” 100-word stories. Unless you prefer not to compete with Madison.

Hi there, I know it’s too late to vote in this, (I’m always late to the party) but I would just say that a 1000 word limit on flash fiction seems a bit on the high side to me.
I don’t know about anybody else, but on Fridays (Fictioneers) I spend a lot of time making sure I get around as many sites as possible, and if this involved reading a 1000 word piece, I think I’d be likely to skip that one in favour of several shorter ones.
Also 1000 words is a complete piece that I could submit elsewhere. Some sites won’t accept pieces that have already been published on the internet. When I do a shorter piece, it’s a bit of a taster to elicit interest in an idea – something I might flesh out for publication elsewhere in the future.
Just sayin’ … Tell me to shut up if you like
1000 is the top limit for a Flash piece as per the definition. it can be anywhere between the 101 and the 1000. Personally, I’m most likely going to be writing in the 300 range. i’d be very surprised if any-many people wrote up to the top limit (as you said) pieces that long are nearly submittable material.
I’m very aware of the terms of published work on the internet. The length, as I stated, is between 101-1000. Not 1000. the lower limit is because 100 is a drabble. Anything higher than 1000 falls into short story UK until 2000, then it is short story US. But there are writers out there who aren’t doing the submission rounds as some of us are. This is an opportunity for them to show work they may not have read otherwise.
Having said that, I encourage you to use this as an opportunity to work on shorter pieces (101-300 long,) bigger than a drabble, but much, much smaller than the top limit.

And no, no one has to shut up.
